Final Fantasy is an outlandish sci-fi and fantasy video game series - why not make a film like this using traditional animation? Not only would it have looked better, it would have served the narrative better, as this story centers around nature versus technology. The project was unsound from the beginning - even today, making a fully CGI animated film like this costs too much to be profitable and is not particularly convincing as a realistic art style besides. It isn't a must see, but not necessarily something you should skip either. I would say take Final Fantasy out of the title and more people would have enjoyed it more than they did. That doesn't mean it's not worth watching, because it still is a decent movie. If you're looking to be wowed, then this movie won't do it (except visually). If anything took away from this movie, it was the package they put all of these amazing visuals into. It didn't need more action or anything like that, it simply needed to tell a bigger story. The problem is that I felt like I was tapping my foot waiting for something bigger to happen, but nothing big ever really happened. They could have done so many things with the world they created. it was just missing something, and it's difficult to say what that should have been. Not a lot really happened, though it was a fascinating concept. It should have had a lot more going on in the beginning or this should have been the beginning of a much greater story. So what was wrong with it? Well after watching it again I realized that the story should have been good, but squeezing something so large into such a small time frame took sacrifice on the story's part. It was an American/Japanese collaboration. Even the voice acting was superb, but that's because this wasn't dubbed into English. If you are talking art and sound, then it gets a 10 in both categories. There was not one piece that was out of place. ![]() The music score was perfect for the film as well. It was filled with the most beautiful computer animation that It really should have changed the industry instead of bankrupting a studio. Other than that, it is best to view it as a unique film. I remember walking out at the end and simply repeating "That was not Final Fantasy." The only thing that links this to the Final Fantasy series is the person responsible for it. I saw this film when it was released in theaters. An enemy whose mere touch is fatal, the Phantoms appear the more dangerous enemy, but as they will come to find out, their human nemeses are also not to be trifled with.įirst and foremost you must take Final Fantasy out of your head when you watch this.
